“How Big Business Stole the Olympics” a talk by Neil Faulkner
Time: Tuesday, 10 July 2012 18:30
Location: St Paul’s Church, St Stephen’s Road, London, E3 5JL
Here’s the full synopsis:
Public Meeting with academic historian and political activist, Neil Faulkner
They’re handing out two million free tickets to the rich. They’re draping the stadium in corporate logos. They’re turning East London into a cross between an arms fair and a war zone. Our rulers have turned the London Olympics into a showcase of class privilege, corporate power, and security wonkery.
Top-level sport is always political. It is used to showcase nation-states and corporate capital. It is always about communicating political messages.
Neil Faulkner is the author of ‘A Visitor’s Guide to the Ancient Olympics’. He will analyse how sport is corrupted by our rulers and argues the case for mass protest against the hijack of the Olympic project.
