Counter Olympics Torch Relay – Saturday 21st July – Stratford to Wanstead Flats via Leytonstone

The torch will depart from the steps at Stratford Station at 2pm depending on situation in Stratford after the official torch relay passes through. Supporters should plan to arrive at around 1.30pm at the steps outside Stratford Station. A group of runners will be accompanied by cyclists and two police officers and will first run around the town centre past St John’s Church on the Broadway and then head off up the Grove to Maryland and then up Leytonstone High Road to Gainsborough Road, loop back down to Leytonstone Tube and then back to Leytonstone High Road to Ferndale Road and Montague Road past Fred Wigg Tower, where missiles have been installed and on to Wanstead Flats.

There will be serious transport problems with road closures caused by the official torch so it is best to travel by bike or tube although buses should restart in the east once the official torch has left Stratford sometime around 1.40pm.

Buses 308 and 58 go past Wanstead Flats.

Come and cheer on the Counter Olympics Torch along its route. It passes two tube stations at Stratford, at the start, and Leytonstone (Central Line) a bit more than mid way along the route. Or got to Wanstead Flats to be part of the welcoming party!

Arrangements may change on the day but this is what we plan to do.
